Clay Remembrance Poppies in Sandwich
50 year 2 pupils have made clay poppies which were planted around the war memorial of St Peters, Sandwich in a short ceremony. This term they have been studying World War I, finishing their topic on the subject of remembrance.
Emily Barnes, Heritage Learning Officer with CCT says: “Its fantastic to have such a creative project at St. Peters. The planting of the poppies at the Tower of London has clearly inspired the imaginations of the children at Sandwich Infant School and I know their teachers, Julia Walker and Angela Widdett, have put a lot of time and effort into the planning of it. The display will be up until Friday 14th November and I’d like to encourage everyone to pay it a visit as part of their remembrance commemorations”
St Peter’s was vested with The CCT in 1974 and is now open to the public and maintained by a dedicated Friends group, who take advantage of the open space and excellent acoustics by putting on regular events including exhibitions, tea parties and concerts.
