Ancient churches of Exeter

Explore some of the earliest churches in the country and their fascinating links to the medieval people of Exeter in this walking tour.

The walking tour will first visit St Martin’s Church. A beautiful Saxon church in the heart of Exeter with elaborate window tracery and sumptuous 17th-century monuments.

The next stop will be St Pancras Church. An atmospheric, small 13th Century church with an 11th or 12th Century font and a Jacobean pulpit.

Following this the tour will stop next at St Olave’s Church. This richly-furnished church was founded before the Conquest by Queen Gytha, and was served by the monks of St Nicholas Priory, nearby. 

Finnally the tour will end at St Mary Steps Church. A Grade I listed church at the west gate of the medieval city, with an outstanding Norman font and an unusual clock dating from 1619. 

Travel: Depart Exeter Cathedral at 10:30, returning by 17:00.
