St Michael's Church, Upton Cressett, Shropshire
- What's nearby
A picturebook country church
St Michael's sits in a quiet, idyllic valley west of Bridgnorth. With its stone walls and moss-covered roof, this mostly Norman church looks as much a part of the landscape as the trees that surround it.
In February, a carpet of snowdrops enlivens the graveyard. The church's interior is sparsely furnished and has a lovely Norman arch in the centre. Just inside the door are the only remains of a couple of figures forming two incomplete scenes from a Nativity cycle.
Nearby is Upton Cressett Hall, a privately owned manor, built in the reign of Elizabeth I.
A 12th century church made of “handsome stone” in a tiny parish.
A medieval treasure saved by George Gilbert Scott
A vast church with an explosive history
Access to the church is via a sloping grass path through churchyard.
