Regional Director Announces Fundraising Cycle

14 Jun 2017

Regional Director of The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT), Colin Shearer, is embarking on a 350 mile sponsored bike ride to raise funds for the heritage charity and to celebrate its annual Church Tourism Week.

The challenging cycle route – with a mile for each of CCT’s 350 churches – will take in four counties over six days. Colin will stop at 20 CCT churches, including four churches that are currently raising money for specific repair projects. All the money raised from the cycle ride will be split between CCT and these projects:

  • St Swithun’s, Worcester: Major regeneration project developing a space for art and sound in this Georgian city centre church. This includes replacing the entire ceiling to stop irreparable water damage to the building.
  • St John’s, Inglesham: Following a recent lead theft causing over £60,000 worth of damage, a new roof needs to be installed to protect this medieval church originally saved by William Morris.
  • St Peter's, Wolfhampcote: Replacing the current plastic windows with clear or stained glass to restore this 14th century church to its former glory.
  • St Bartholomew's, Lower Basildon: Repairing the church tower clock so it can chime again.

Setting out on Wednesday 26th July, the sponsored cycle ride takes place over Church Tourism Week – the annual celebration of historic churches through a nationwide series of innovative and surprising events.
