Partnership event at Christ the Consoler, Newby goes down a treat

Loyd Grossman CBE was guest of honour at a fundraising event at the Church of Christ the Consoler, Skelton-cum-Newby, on Wednesday 17th June.

The event, held in partnership with the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust, was to encourage interest in both trusts and explain more about their work. A most convivial evening was spent within the spectacular grounds of Newby Hall, at Christ the Consoler.

The guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and wine, followed by strawberries and cream on this pleasant summer evening. The more formal aspect of the event was initiated by Crispin Truman, CEO of The Churches Conservation Trust, who warmly welcomed the guests to Church of Christ the Consoler, which is in our care.

Richard Compton of Newby Hall welcomed attendees to the Newby Estate, and introduced Loyd who gave a most entertaining and inspiring talk on heritage. The evening was concluded with historian David Thornton providing a short but illuminating talk on the architecture and symbolism of the church.

The fantastic setting, excellent food and convivial atmosphere combined with Loyd’s fascinating talk was the perfect recipe for an enjoyable evening.
