New Chief Executive Appointed

09 Aug 2017

Peter Ainsworth, Chairman of The Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) announces the appointment of Peter Aiers as the new Chief Executive of the CCT.

Peter Ainsworth said, “The Trustees are delighted to appoint Peter to the role of CEO.  He has played an important part in the achievements and successes of CCT over the past ten years.  He has a deep understanding of the heritage of historic churches and how to make them come alive and be loved, making a positive impact today and for the future.  His experience and enthusiasm will ensure that the CCT delivers its mission to inspire people, protect history and create value as we move towards our 50th anniversary in 2019 and beyond”.

Peter Aiers said, “It is a great privilege to be appointed to this role caring for so many of the nation’s finest historic churches.  I am really excited to continue working with the CCT’s outstanding volunteers and staff in my new position.  Historic churches are for everybody.  They tell a story of our heritage, architecture and design like no other building type.  There are challenges ahead as we seek to ensure our churches are well repaired and relevant to this and future generations, but I feel confident that we have the best possible platform to build upon.  I look forward to thanking all our wonderful members and encouraging more to join us in sustaining these magnificent churches”.

Peter joined the Trust in 2007, initially as Major Projects Manager.  He led and built the award winning regeneration team for five years finding sustainable solutions to the challenging urban churches within our collection, while championing community involvement in the care and maintenance of historic churches.  He became director of the southeast region in 2012 and added leadership of the north region in 2016.  Since 2014, he has been developing CCT’s popular Champing™ initiative.

The announcement follows an intensive recruitment process to find a suitable successor to Crispin Truman OBE, who left CCT this August after fourteen years.
