HLF Grant for St Peter's Northampton
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has today announced more than £12million of UK-wide funding that will transform five important but neglected historic buildings back to commercial use, creating economic growth in five local areas.
St Peter’s Church is grade 1 listed and dates from the 12th century and sits next to The Old Black Lion pub, which is a 17th Century inn that claims to be the oldest pub in Northampton. This project seeks to link the two buildings to a new ‘Heritage Gateway’ in Northampton, breathing new life into both buildings. This project will enhance the area’s tourism offer and create new conference and meeting facilities, whilst the redeveloped pub building will become a pub-restaurant. This project is a partnership between The Churches Conservation Trust, Northamptonshire County Council, Northampton Borough Council, The West Northants Development Corporation, the Friends of Northampton Castle, the Friends of St Peter’s and All Saints Church.
We will be launching the project later this month and look forward to updating you soon, watch this space.
