Exciting New Project to Renovate and Rediscover the Church of St Thomas a Becket

08 Mar 2012

A new BBC programme, Restoration Home, will see the church of St Thomas a Becket in Pensford undergo a dramatic transformation from church to family home.

The tower of the church is owned by CCT, but the rest of the building was sold to a private individual in 2007. Paul and Laura, the newlyweds who want to make the church their home, are planning to restore the church and in the process explore its past. The project promises to unearth;

“The dark times which marked its end and its links to an architectural movement that would change style forever, connecting it to the design of some of the greatest buildings in the country.”

We have spent around £50 000 making conservation repairs to the tower since it was vested. These repairs have included bell repairs, lead work, re-hanging of monuments and re-rendering internally and externally. These repairs were carried out over a three year period by Alex Carr of Breathe Conservation.

The programme promises to be an intriguing look into the history of the building, and will delight anyone passionate about the conservation of Britain’s historic churches.
