Let there be light in Norwich

Electrical lighting may seem straightforward, but it's a luxury that some Medieval church have been waiting centuries for, as our Volunteering Officer in Norwich recently found out...

"Rejoice! The long awaited new lighting and electrics are now in place at Norwich St John Maddermarket. Even with the doors closed, it almost feels like standing in daylight. The photo below doesn't really do it justice, so if you are in the area do pop in and see it for yourselves.

"And, even more exciting than the lights are a range of new plug sockets through out the west end, north aisle and vestry to make the space much more flexible for activities, and you can now even plug in a little heater to keep toes warm at the welcome desk!

"After a fantastic team effort to spring clean the church at the end of March, we are very happy to be reopening to the public again in April. Our dedicated volunteers have been champing (no.. not THAT Champing) at the bit to get back in and welcome visitors! We will be open most Thursdays and Fridays throughout April – please check our website for up to date opening times.

"We also hope to have more volunteers join us over the coming months so that we can welcome more visitors to this fine church in the fine city of Norwich. So if you are interested in helping out do let us know."
