Recent Research at St John the Baptist church, Bristol by Dr Toby Parker

The 14th-century church of St John on the Wall is a familiar landmark, its tower and spire rising over St John’s Gate at the foot of Broad Street, Bristol.

Recently a group of The Churches Conservation Trust volunteers has set about updating the history and interpretation of this remarkable building.  Although almost no excavation has been possible on the constricted site, study of the church’s structure and furnishings, of parish documents, and of antiquarian records, has already led to exciting new insights into the medieval site and its post-medieval history.
