Norfolk Thatched Churches Open Day - Norwich
A Church Tourism Week event - Learn more about the skills of thatching churches and keeping the roof on
Join us in the centre of Norwich to meet a thatcher and find out more about thatching, how Norfolk's churches are historically and architecturally important and how we;re raising money to save Norfolk's thatched church roofs and the medieval art within these incredible buildings.
St. Margaret's Church at Hales, and St. Gregory's Church in Heckingham are but one mile apart and they share a common theme and problem. They are both thatched, and have been for over two centuries, but recently birds have decided they would like to share our thatch, and removed much of it from our roofs.
These two roofs will cost around £25,000 to repair, and we have an appeal in place, which has now raised almost 50% of our target.
Refreshments will be available, and CCT staff will be on hand to answer your questions. A short presentation every hour on the hour will provide more detailed information about the projects at Heckingham and Hales.
