David Glover will tak eyou on an exploration of Col Edward Ackroyd's legacy with highlights from his life.


Join David Glover, Presidentpr of the Halifax Antiquarian Society Heritage Walk, beginning at All Souls Church, Haley Hill, funded by the industrialist  Col Edward Akroyd, and opened in 1859.  We will be exploring the model village of Akroydon, which he founded shortly after. 

On the way we shall pass Bankfield Museum, once the mansion where Akroyd lived; and we shall look at the site of the lost Mausoleum where he was buried, in the detached Parochial Burial Ground of All Souls’. 

Other highlights of Haley Hill area from Victorian times will be explained en route.

The walk will last around two hours and involves crossing a busy road, streets and uneven steps in the church and church yard.

£3 is payable on the day and proceeds go to caring for All Souls Church.
