Heritage Open Day - Open Church with photography and art exhibition at St Mary's Church, Hartley Wintney
St Mary's Church, Hartley Wintney, Hampshire
St Mary's Church, Hartley Wintney, is a beautiful medieval church built in 1234. It has box pews and 15th century wall drawings. The Church will be open to explore and view the photography and art produced by the U3A.
St Mary's Church was built by Cistercian nuns and is located in what was then the centre of Hartley Wintney. The original structure was modified in the mid 19th century when the Victorians added transepts, a gallery and replaced the tower which houses 3 bells dating from 1612. The Church became redundant in 1975 and is now maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust. It is located in a peaceful graveyard on the outskirts of the village.
Come and explore this beautiful church and enjoy the exhibition of photography and art inspired by this beautiful church which has been produced by the local U3A groups.
