The oldest part of the church is the north wall of the nave which is partially built of reused Roman tiles and has a blocked Saxon doorway. Later, in the medieval period, the church was considerably enlarged and it had reached its present size by 1400. Relatively little was changed subsequently, although a west gallery was added during the early 19th century for the use of the village choir and musicians. Unusual features inside the church include hat pegs for the congregation and two sets of Royal Arms, one of King James I (1603-25) and the other of George III (1760-1820). The church was declared redundant in 1975/76 and is now in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust.
