Saturday 28th September 2019, Church of St Thomas the Martyr, Bristol BS1 6JG
Doors 3.30pm. Earlybird tickets: £12 via Headfirst Bristol: www.hdfst.uk/E52909
INTRODUCTION
Dark Alchemy IV will be a one-day dark noise and ritual ambient festival and is the most ambitious Dark Alchemy event to date, presenting performances from International and home-grown artists, including several Bristol debuts.
The festival will feature a miniature dark market showcasing and celebrating the work of local creative artists, along with a collaboratively-produced programme / zine, and a compilation album featuring music of the artists involved. The audience will also be able to enjoy specially selected images of the church from the Churches Conservation Trust’s own archives, which will be projected between performances.
This event will be raising funds for the The Churches Conservation Trust, as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
PROGRAMME
We are presenting co-headlining artists from Berlin playing for the first time in Bristol; Vincenzo Gagliardi aka The Nent (immersive dark audio-visual, “underlying its occasional catchiness is a menacing darkness replete with tension…the percussion-based activation of sounds provides a set of oscillating and hypnotic offerings. Strong recommendation” Avant Music News) and Guiseppe Capriglione aka Skrei (ambient/noise, “loops which are listenable, organic, earthy…tender drones rumbling around in circles…the best half of an hour you will spend in the long time. Skrei will not disappoint”, Dark Frequencies).
As well as creating their own striking individual performances, they collaborate on the artistic project Modern Bön. In this capacity they create events which aim to “create an invisible mental and emotional gate between eeriness and esoteric artistic and performative contents and the audience.” Contributing artists include Phurpa, Corps, Vomir, and Treha Sektori. Together with Laura Polańska, they also co-created Metzger Therapie, a Berlin based experimental label “interested in Drone/Noise/Ambient music and in promoting unaligned forms of sounds and art.”

Dark Alchemy Presents: Dark Alchemy IV preview event
In addition to the festival in Bristol, Dark Alchemy are branching out of Bristol for the first time, presenting a special preview event, curated especially for the Iklectik, London. Four of the artists billed to play at Dark Alchemy IV Festival in Bristol the following night will play live at the preview event: The Nent, Skrei, Il Santo Bevitore, and Ellen Southern, singer from Dead Space Chamber Music.
ABOUT THE HOSTS
Dark Alchemy Bristol is an independent event series promoting dark ambient / ritual / industrial / noise / drone / esoteric / dark wave / experimental artists, both local and international. Established in 2017, Dark Alchemy is co-curated by Ellen Southern and Tom Bush (from dark-neoclassical trio Dead Space Chamber Music) and Tommy Edwards aka Tommy Creep (modular synth). Our core events are held in unique spaces including crypts and churches, immersing audiences in the acoustics, aesthetic and atmosphere of each. The aim is create a dark musical alchemy: to provide a testing ground for bringing distinctive musical elements together, creating a unique and transformative experience.
The Dark Alchemy event series has developed symbiotically with The Churches Conservation Trust. The events raise awareness and funds to support the work of protecting and maintaining so many sacred spaces across the country, including St Thomas the Martyr. 2019 sees the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of the trust, the country's pre-eminent trust for the management and repair of historic church properties, with more than 350 Grade 1 listed treasures in their care. Dark Alchemy are proud to have raised over £850 for the charity so far, and introduced new audiences to such special sites.
We hope to welcome you to a Dark Alchemy event soon!
