b-side celebrates 10 years in 2018 and the biennial festival returns to Portland

b-side celebrates 10 years in 2018 and the biennial festival returns to Portland, showcasing the very best in contemporary art, made in response to this beautiful, intriguing and extraordinary island.

Often simultaneously playful and challenging, their artistic programme results from conversations between artists and producers with the residents and communities of Portland. This year they are really thrilled to be joined by a group of young producers who have worked together over the last year to bring their own festival to Portland, WHY festival explores youth rights and youth voice and takes places over the second Festival weekend.

St George's Portland is delighted to be hosting an unique exhibition as part of this year's b-side festival:

KAMRA-E-FAOREE | FARHAD BERAHMAN

Farhad has created a series of hand tinted photographic portraits of Portland residents taken in places that have a special connection for them. Created using his hand built Afghan Camera Box/kamra-e-faoree (still used by veteran street photographers in Afghanistan and Iran), this traditional method of photography creates space for subjects to connect slowly with their surroundings, sharing memories, thoughts and exploring relationships to place and what it means to be from somewhere.

FREE HAND TINTING WORKSHOPS & GET YOUR PORTRAIT TAKEN

Farhad will be taking portraits of visitors in two locations and visitors will be able to try out hand tinting images on these dates:
Sat 08 and 15 | 11am - 2pm Chiswell Promenade between The Cove Inn and Quiddles Café.
Sun 09 | 2pm - 5pm St Georges Church, Reforne

As this exhibition is free to visit, we very much welcome donations in the box toward the conservation of the church, thank you.
