Volunteer Events Coordinator - St Mary the Virgin, Shrewsbury

Salary:
voluntry
Hours/days:
Flexible
Location:
Shropshire
Church of St Mary the Virgin, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

About the role

This will suit people who are well organised and have strong administrative skills. Experience in managing events would be a huge bonus but is not as essential as an enthusiastic and friendly manner, and a desire to share this historic building with wider audiences.  You'll need to be able to work as part of a team but be able to work on your own initiative on occasions.

This role will provide an excellent opportunity for someone who is keen to pursue a career in the Events Management / Heritage Sector.

About the place

The spire of St Mary's is one of the tallest in England and for over 500 years it has dominated the skyline of Shrewsbury's old town. In 1739, showman Robert Cadman attempted to slide from it, head first, using a rope and a grooved breastplate. His engraved obituary stands outside the west door.

The church is now the only complete medieval church in Shrewsbury. It dates from Saxon times and has beautiful additions from the twelfth-century onwards. Inside, the atmosphere is peaceful with the soaring stone arches giving way to the church's great treasure - its stained glass. No other church in the country has a collection to equal it.

St Mary's fabulous acoustics and lavish interior make it perfect to be used for unamplified concerts and lectures, and even as an exhibition space.

Volunteers will have an induction to their new role and will be supported by the Local Community Officer and other CCT staff where appropriate. All volunteers will be expected to positively promote the CCT.

In addition to this role description you will also receive a copy of the CCT Volunteer Handbook which contains extracts and summaries of some of the CCT policies. Volunteers may need to refer to fuller versions of these documents which may be obtained upon request.
