Church of St Mary the Virgin, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Conserving the churches in our care and engaging people with them are at the heart of our work. All of our churches include important heritage features and we want everyone to feel welcome and to appreciate them.

At St Mary’s Shrewsbury we’ve received support from the Heritage Fund which will enable us to conserve and repair 12 windows within the church but also make the stained glass move accessible to the public through events, activities and interpretation in our Past, Present and Future project.

We are looking for a Project Officer who will identify opportunities for audience development across Shrewsbury and the surrounding area, someone with the skills and passion to engage the community in line with the agreed project activity plan.  They will need to demonstrate an innovative and exciting approach to event and activity development.  With a clear understanding of the need for sustainability to be built in to everything we deliver. An existing dedicated cohort of volunteers will offer opportunities for leadership and the need to recruit and engage more volunteers and supporters will offer the opportunity to build a strong team.

This is an exciting opportunity for you if you are used to working on your own initiative in delivering projects and reporting great outcomes and outputs within a defined timeframe and budget. There’ll be opportunities to get creative in working with a designer on interpretation too.

The role will be focused on St Mary’s but there will be times to work from home too, with occasional travel across England to attend national and regional meetings and events.
