We’re looking for a Heritage Learning Officer on a fixed term basis to engage and inspire audiences young and old to love our historic buildings.

Churches Conservation Trust works with communities to look after 357 historic churches, which are the perfect place to discover something new, whatever your age. They offer the chance to stand in the footsteps of our ancestors, create an inspired artwork, or even find out about fungus! These ancient, listed sites are among the most beautiful locations in England.

As Heritage Learning Officer you will engage schools, facilitating and developing our offer of a wide-ranging Learning Programme, with engaging workshops which explore topics on a range of curriculum subjects from Art and History to Science and Engineering. You will develop and deliver inspirational and fun activities for families, engaging them in these special places. You will also develop digital learning content, help expand our learning offer and work with regional colleagues to deliver learning and interpretation projects at various churches.

The North region stretches from Cumbria and Northumberland to Shropshire, Rutland and Lincolnshire, so a willingness to travel across the region and beyond is important, to support the team and the wider organisation.

You will be an excellent communicator, highly organised, with a passion for learning and heritage. You will have experience of developing and delivering learning activities. You’ll also be passionate about equality, have a good understanding of safeguarding and an eye on current learning events, policies and legislation.

You’ll be visiting sites and schools regularly, maintaining and forging relationships and developing and delivering activities.

This role is part funded by Historic England, with funding from the Department for Education.
