William’s Castle is a new radio drama, with elements of documentary, based on the orphan choir boy William's open letter to the future. Written in 1897, the letter was found hidden behind a pew during restoration work here at the church over a hundred years later. At the age of 14, and unsure of what was to become of him, William's only request was that he be remembered.
The letter sparked hundreds of conversations within our community and a response that has included research into William's life, articles in the press – here and internationally - and songs written inspired by him.
Written by Jay Sykes and produced by Sister Sounds, William’s Castle is a documentary drama that brings together all of the different aspects of this incredible story. It features interview recordings with people connected to the story, re-enacted elements based on historic research, and a soundtrack of songs written and performed by Paige Temperley and Holly Rees.
