Since we opened our doors again in 2022 we've been looking at different ways to share heritage crafts with visitors- something that our volunteers and participants enjoy about making in Holy Trinity is the sense of calm they get, working on small projects in our historic nave.

We've chosen a number of slow, mindful crafts that will get your creativity flowing and your attention focussed on the work in front of you.

Kokodama

This Japanese craft is all about creating a living sculpture- inspired by the greenery of our window and church yard we'll be using specialist soils and materials to create a stunning arrangement that can be hung, planted or displayed at home.

Book Sculpture

Book sculptures made in Pui's last workshop at Seventeen Nineteen

We'll be joined by Pui Lee in an online workshop repurposing books into stunning 3D sculptures, an ideal workshop to do at home. Use a book you've loved to create a memory or a book you didn't enjoy to repurpose it! A slow, methodical and truly unique workshop.

Memory bears

We're working with Verity Eggleston to repurpose old, treasured fabrics into memory bears- treasured keepsakes for makers to remember a special person or time and tell their story while making. This workshop will take place over three weeks to make sure participants have the time and space to consider their fabric choices, the stories they want to share and how they want to remember the person who inspired them to make their bear.

Slow Stitching Collage

Our incredible volunteer, Alison, has been making books and textiles based on her conversations with visitors about their memories of Holy Trinity over the last year- she's delivered amazing textile workshops over that time and has decided the best way she can help participants slow down and talk is to run a truly creative 'textile collage' workshop. Layering different fabrics and creating imagery using different techniques she'll lead participants through design decisions to slowly make a unique piece of tactile artwork.

Geometric Mobiles

We were lucky enough to be part of an Erasmus project taking volunteers to different organisations in Europe to learn about how they operate. While visiting Finland we learned about the traditional craft of himelli- using straw to create beautiful geometric mobiles as blessings for spaces. Volunteer, Theresa has been practicing and perfecting how to share the craft with others and is beyond excited to share this intricate and rewarding practice with you!

Conscious Stitching course

Combining several of our most succesful textile workshops we're working from naturally dyeing our threads and fabrics, embroidering, quilting, mending and embellishing them in this evening class. Participants can take part in all six workshops or sign up for any specific classes they're interested in.
