Enjoy a glimpse into Shropshire’s history, visiting sites that have stood for centuries, some as far back as the time of the Domesday Book, through to the current day.
St Andrew’s Church, Wroxeter: The interior dates mostly from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with excellent carvings and sixteenth-century alabaster tombs.
Church of St Mary Magdalene, Battlefield: Standing on the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury, this church boasts an original tower and walls, while the interior features date from 1860s restorations.
All Saints Church, Baschurch: This church of red sandstone blocks, a slate roof, and a west tower dates originally from the late twelfth-century, with subsequent alterations in 1790 and 1885-86.
St John the Baptist Church, Ruyton-XI-Towns: This twelfth-century church with a nineteenthcentury turret clock features beautiful stained-glass windows, a pipe organ, majestic timber roof beams, and many interesting memorials to local people.
Haughmond Abbey, Upton Magna: The extensive remains of an Augustinian abbey, including abbots’ quarters, refectory, and cloister. The substantially surviving chapter house has a frontage richly bedecked with twelfth and fourteenth-century carving and statuary.
Travel: Depart Shrewsbury train station at 10:00, returning by 17:00

Accessibility Please note that on all of our tours, even our coach tours, there is a fair amount of walking, quite often over uneven and worn surfaces. They are not suitable for anyone with difficulties with everyday walking and stair climbing. In some circumstances, coaches may be unable to park near the church, and there may be walking over uneven land or tracks when approaching the church building. Cancellation Policy If you are no longer able to make a tour after booking, then please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel your booking more than 1 month before the tour start date, then you will be entitled to a full refund. If you cancel within 1 month of your tour then, unfortunately, we are not able to offer a refund.
