Explore the architecture, history and literary links of three magnificent churches set in the romantic Cornish landscape.
St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Launceston: St Mary Magdalene lies below the Norman castle, which guards the approach to Cornwall over the River Tamar. Famous for its carved granite façade, said to be unparalleled in England.
St Torney’s Church, North Hill: Standing on the edge of Bodmin Moor with a tall tower and richly decorated interior, St Torney’s is a recent vesting of CCT. View the fourteenth-century chancel, beautiful wagon roof, and impressive memorials and stained glass.
St Nonna’s Church, Altarnun: St Nonna’s dates back to the early fifteenth-century, boasting a strikingly carved twelfth-century square font and beautifully carved bench ends with biblical references, superstitions, and local activities, carved between 1510 and 1530.
