About this church
A magnificent church on a grand scale
This Halifax landmark is one of most magnificent buildings to be designed by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott and paid for by Edward Akroyd, a Halifax manufacturer. Scott thought it his best church but he still lamented it was not grander still.
Completed in 1859, it has a 72-metre-high spire and dazzling stained glass created by Victorian master craftsmen.
