Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Churches Conservation Trust is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Images on some pages do not always have suitable image descriptions. Users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in images. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
- Video captions are not always accessible. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.2 (Non-text Content).
- Videos do not have full text alternatives like transcripts. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.8 (Non-text Content).
- Some images use colour as the only way to convey meaning. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.1 (Use of Color).
- Some images include text with poor colour contrast to its background. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)).
- Some headings with attached documents not in HTML formats, such as PDFs, do not display correctly. They may look like normal text or a different type of heading. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
- Some attached documents not in HTML formats are not logically ordered and some screen readers may read it incorrectly. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.2 (Meaningful Sequence).
- Some pages use images of text instead of text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.5 (Images of Text).
- Some images include elements with poor colour contrast to the background. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast).
- Some headings don’t accurately describe the content underneath. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels).
- The text on some buttons doesn’t accurately describe what the button does. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels).
Disproportionate burden
It was not possible to review and improve all images and image labelling. It was not possible to make all legacy PDF attachments accessible, such as church guides. We will not be providing transcripts and new captions to legacy videos. Nor was it possible to add captions to legacy SoundCloud files. Sign language interpretation could not be delivered for videos.
What we’re doing to improve the accessibility of our website
- Our website migration team continue to review our content to improve image labelling, image accessibility, heading and text accessibility and button legibility
- We are developing videos to train our staff on best accessibility practice when adding images, content and producing PDFs.
- The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services; however, we are strategising a review to improve the accessibility of our attached non- HTML resources, such as church guides.
