Annual Appeal: Open Churches

“Into these churches men and women have for centuries poured their faith, joy, sorrow, labour and love.” - Sir Simon Jenkins, Trustee of the Churches Conservation Trust

The 356 historic churches in the Churches Conservation Trusts care tell the story of place: the hopes and fears of generations are embedded in their stones and mortar. They have withstood plague and rebellion, pestilence and war. The danger is we take their presence for granted while they fall victim to creeping decline.

When our doors sadly closed to the public in March as a result of COVID-19, community events, visitor donations and various local fundraising activities ceased, resulting in an estimated loss of £500,000. We are doing all we can to minimise the impact but the long term needs of our unique churches will be more acute due to the pandemic.

Your donation will help us in our work to ensure our churches are re-opened quickly and safely and enable us to continue to support these buildings and their communities.

Here is a list of just a few ways your donation could help us:

The Churches Conservation Trust holds a unique and growing collection of historic churches throughout England. The 356 churches we have saved are the best examples of architecture, beauty, craftsmanship and are world class. We keep these buildings open to the public and we do not charge entry. They belong to everyone and everyone should have access. Help us keep it this way.
