Wouldn't it be better to give the money you spend on redundant churches to the Church of England to keep 'living' churches open and in good repair?

The Church of England has its own priorities in terms of its mission. It has more buildings than it can use and historic fabric may be incompatible with the needs of the modern church. However, listed churches in use can apply for grant aid from:

English Heritage, Kemble Drive, Swindon SN2 2GZ

You may also wish to contact: The Historic Churches Preservation Trust, 31 Newbury Street, London, EC1A 7HU and their affiliated County Trusts.

The Open Churches Trust can also provide funding to enable Grade 1 listed ‘living’ places of worship to be open at additional times aside from when services are taking place. Details are available from The Open Churches Trust, 22 Tower Street, London, WC2H 9NS.

The role of The Churches Conservation Trust is to care for those churches which are too important to the nation in terms of architecture, history, culture and association to lose even when they are no longer needed for regular worship. For this purpose, the Trust receives two-thirds of its grant income from the State, through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which recognises the special role our buildings play over and above their purely religious function.
