The Churches Conservation Trust is always loooking for help from volunteers, whether this is at their local Trust church, an area of England generally at our head office in London.

Current volunteering opportunities

AngelStewards/Guides

Join our dedicated Steward/Guides at our unique churches that attract an increasing number of visitors each year, providing an engaging and enjoyable experience in a serene and historic setting. Steward/Guides are required for all our churches in all regions.

Duties include: welcoming groups and individual visitors, hosting educational visits and providing guided tours, stewarding at planned events, church cleaning and the opportunity to research information for updating guidebooks and other literature.

Skills/Qualifications: We are looking for friendly, approachable individuals, with good communication skills, who are able to work either alone or as part of a team. No formal qualifications are required but an interest in local history, heritage and church architecture would be an advantage. 

 

AngelTourism and Marketing Assistant

We require someone to assist the South East Regional Manager in preparing a tourism and marketing strategy for the region and undertaking duties to roll out this strategy.

Examples of these duties include:

  • Contributing to the preparation of a regional tourism and marketing plan
  • Updating tourism websites and the CCT website with church events
  • Undertaking an audit of trade shows in the region and attending them on behalf of the CCT. There will also be the opportunity to attend tourism meetings with partners and conferences.
  • Co-ordinating visitor surveys and inputting information (training will be given)
  • Assisting Church volunteers with tourism activities
  • Helping to organise and promote CCT events
  • Writing and distributing press releases in conjunction with our national PR team.
  • Auditing leaflet distribution

Exact duties will depend on a number of factors including capacity, location and experience.

Skills/Qualifications: Good communication, IT and administrative skills; a media/heritage degree would be an advantage.

 

AngelDevelopment and Communications Assistant

An exciting opportunity exists for a lively and energetic individual to work within the Development and Communications Team at the Trust's national office, assisting with the development of events, planning direct mail campaigns press initiatives and general fundraising.

Skills/Qualifications: An interest in heritage and conservation of churches is essential, whilst relevant experience of working with a national heritage organisation would be an advantage. An ability to work with minimum supervision, whilst being able to meet deadlines; computer literate, especially data entry and spreadsheets; able to draft press releases at short notice.

 

AngelNorth Yorkshire Events Team Volunteer

An exciting opportunity exists to meet like minded people who share an interest in showcasing our amazing heritage churches, by joining a dedicated Events Team.

Duties involve: stewarding a variety of pre-planned events at our North Yorkshire churches at weekends, in addition to being involved in publicising these events beforehand..

Skills/qualifications: No formal qualifications required, but good all round communication skills, an interest in historic churches and own transport are essential.

Required to work at weekends. 

Training will be given and expenses paid.

 

AngelConservation Task Force for the CCT Midlands region

An excellent opportunity exists to meet like minded people who share an interest in preserving our heritage.  The Conservation Task Force will meet on a monthly basis to look after a small group of historic churches, ensuring that these buildings are safe, clean and welcoming for visitors, so that they fulfil their potential as beautiful heritage sites.

Skills/qualifications: An interest in heritage and historic churches as duties include working as a team, targeting specific churches for conservation cleaning.  No formal qualifications required as training and support is given.

 

AngelConservation Cleaning Team for the CCT Northern region

We have over 70 historic churches in the North of England and are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to become involved in practical conservation work, from churchyard maintenance to interior conservation cleaning of churches.  We are looking for volunteers to either look after a specific church or who are willing to work as part of a team looking after a group of churches.

Skills/qualifications:  No formal qualifications are required, but an interest in practical conservation and heritage is required. Trainig and support will be given.

 

AngelSouth-West Area Co-ordinator

An exciting opportunity exists to assist CCT's Suuth West regional management team to look after a small group of the regions most beautiful churches, through liaising with keyholders and local community contacts, to ensure these buildings are safe, secure, clean and welcoming for visitors and that they fulfil their potential  as beautiful heritage sites.

Skills and qualifications: Good interpersonal and communication skills, in addition to the ability to work alone with minimum supervision.  A relevant academic qualification and access to own transport would be an advantage.
