St Mary, Fleet Marston
Isolated on its hillock in a field near the Aylesbury to Bicester road, St Mary’s is concealed behind a circle of trees, the village it served having long disappeared. Built of stone in the 12th and 13th centuries, probably on the site of an earlier church, it consists only of nave, chancel and porch. It is charming inside: the beautiful chancel arch rebuilt in the 14th century, the fine 15th century queen-post roof over the nave, exposed during Sir G Gilbert Scott’s 1868 restoration, and the quaint Norman font are all to be noted. John Wesley preached here soon after his ordination.
