St Arild, Oldbury-on-the-Hill
The west tower of this charming, typical small country church is visible across the fields from Didmarton. Dedicated to a local saint, about whom little is known, it was built in the 13th century, with some repairs being carried out in the 18th century. It escaped restoration by the Victorians; the simple interior with its box pews, a two-decker pulpit and reading desk suggest that time has passed this building by.
