Holy Trinity, Wentworth
This partly ruined building, in the shadow of the new church built by Pearson in 1877, contributes to a very picturesque village. In the 17th century chancel is its great glory: a series of memorials to the heads of the Wentworth family from 1548 to 1689, including Thomas, Earl of Strafford, Charles I’s close adviser who was beheaded on Tower Hill in 1641. Church and churchyard have other interesting monuments, including many to the staff from the great house at the end of the village.
