All Saints, Leigh
Only the chancel of Leigh’s old church remains, isolated in low-lying fields near the source of the Thames; the rest of the church was removed to a drier and more convenient site in 1896-97. The arches, windows and other features date from the 13th and 15th centuries and the east gable of the old nave was left to protect the chancel arch. There are 17th century texts painted on the walls and framed in designs of clouds and scrolls, providing a remarkable example of country Baroque.
