Communities

Friends of St Martin WaitheFor many people, churches represent the life and soul of their community.

At the Churches Conservation Trust we are more than keen to ensure that continues or begins again if the going has been tough.  Indeed, we are and will do all we can to foster the kind of environment where local people can have not just a say but also a hand in shaping the future.

In a real sense the long term future of what were the very first generation of community centres of mediaeval towns and villages depends on fostering and continually strengthening local links through our staff, our friends groups and our volunteers.

So this section of our website looks at what the Trust and local people and organisations are doing together to shape the future and long term security of these wonderful buildings and we would like to hear about your ideas and experience as we learn from each other and try out new ideas.

When you enjoy the Visit Churches section of this website you’ll soon gather that our unique collection features rural, urban and market town churches right across England.  Most of the communities these churches were built to serve have seen enormous social and economic changes that will continue as we choose new ways and places to live and work.

Yet in the midst of such change we find that time and time again local people of all persuasions care about churches for all sorts of valid reasons and want them to remain and be cherished, and to serve communities in new and appropriate ways in the future.
