Beautiful Medieval wallpaintings

This is an isolated church set in meadows beside a farm, with an attractive Norman round tower that has a conical tiled roof.

Inside, St Mary’s boasts a series of beautiful 14th-century wallpaintings, elegantly rendered in shades of grey and ochre depicting St Christopher and scenes from the Seven Works of Mercy, as well as the Ten Commandments.

There is also a 13th-century font and a 17th-century pulpit.

I love visiting this church, it is firmly at the top of the tree for me and has a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. I always feel better for visiting this church and it is redundant in terms of services, it is still a working church based on how I feel after a visit there. Thank you CCT for doing a wonderful job maintaining this "redundant?" church. I hope to make my visits more frequent.

Keyholder

If the access information for this church is listed as 'Keyholder nearby', this means that the key is kept by one of our invaluable volunteer 'keyholders', who usually live just a short walk from the church and can give visitors the key; sometimes this is a nearby hotel, pub, library, art gallery or other venue. You will find instructions explaining how to get the key when you arrive at the church.

Facilities

Due to the historic nature of our buildings, only a very small number of them have heating or running water meaning that they can be cold, and very rarely have toilet facilities. The lighting is usually operated via a 'push button' timer or a motion sensor. We do apologise for any inconvenience the lack of facilities may cause.
