The heart of communities

We encourage communities to have not just a say but a hand in shaping the future of their churches, with local people taking an active role in caring for churches and leading on volunteering, community initiatives and activities.

• We hold events including concerts, theatrical productions, craft fairs, flower festivals and occasional services so that churches thrive.

• Local people are supporting the Trust by volunteering which can include opening churches, undertaking minor conservation work and stewarding events and activities.

• Fifty Friends groups have been set up across the country supporting individual churches and actively fundraise on behalf of the Trust.

• We are continually fundraising with the support of communities to provide facilities within churches such as toilets, kitchens and heating so that churches can be used to their full potential.

• Our Regeneration Taskforce has led on identifying new uses for churches at risk and works with external partners to maximise the potential of historic churches.
