Imagine our English towns or landscapes without church spires or bell towers...
In October 2010, it was announced that the vital funding we receive from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, was to be reduced by 20% over the next four years.
At our most conservative estimates, this reflects a loss in excess of £1million – equivalent to the cost of opening all our churches to the public last year. So now more than ever we need the support of our valued donors.
From basic weather proofing to painstaking conservation work on ancient wallpaintings, we use traditional craft skills and locally-sourced materials.
This is expensive but necessary to ensure churches survive for future generations.
We run an extensive conservation programme of repair and maintenance. Our priority is to keep our churches structurally sound, weathertight and well presented for visitors.
An amazing 3,500 volunteers play a critical part in safeguarding these ancient buildings.
For many centuries churches were the hub of a community.
We work to ensure this continues today and we look to local communities to help care for and use their local church so it has a sustainable future.
The Trust benefits greatly from the time, experience and skills of over 1000 volunteers who are a valued part of our organisation.
Volunteers are at the heart of our plans and objectives and the very foundation of our work at local, regional and national level.
