The future of CCT’s only unlisted church - St John the Baptist, Blawith

The Regeneration Taskforce is looking at a variety of options for the future of this church in the southern Lake District.

Once you’ve seen one church…

St John the Baptist, Blawith was vested with the CCT when it was apparently mistaken for a medieval ruin across the road.

Blawith St John - half-walls of green-grey slate stones making up medieval ruined church across road

St John the Baptist is the work of the architect EG Paley, who was responsible (along with his practice partner Hubert Austin) for All Souls Bolton, the focus of CCT's largest regeneration project.

Working with local partners

In 2009 a housing needs survey highlighted a shortage of affordable housing for local people.

Addressing this shortage is difficult in a National Park area because of the strict planning laws and so the Regeneration Team has been exploring the sensitive conversion of the church to affordable or local needs housing which will protect the local landscape but help serve this very pressing community need.

Last year, we welcomed over two million visitors to our churches. If each person donated just £2, this would enable us to keep our churches open, safe and watertight for you and future generations to enjoy.
