A new way of telling the story of Holy Trinity Church, York

A touch-screen, created by The Centre for the Study of Christianity & Culture at the University of York, has been installed near the vestry, drawing people from the doorway further into the body of the church.

Once there, the programme gives visitors the chance to explore the interior via two 360 degree panoramas which highlight and explain features to see, discover the history of the parish and its church from earliest times, and see via a 3D model how the building came to be as it is today. The notable box-pews are the subject of the Conservation Spotlight section, showing how we care for the special features in our churches. 

The programme also includes sections on the life of the church today, the wider work of CCT and lists other CCT churches to explore locally, encouraging the 50,000+ visitors to this gem to broaden their horizons and visit some of our equally lovely but less well-known churches around Yorkshire. An added bonus is that visitors can take the experience home to share with others, as an extended version of the programme is available on a CD-ROM to buy for £5 in the church.

This enhances the resources provided for visitors and allows them to explore further, whilst providing an income stream for the church. A great outcome for everyone!
