When we asked the Friends Group to open All Saints Church for Heritage Open Days they chose a 'Married at All Saints' Theme for the weekend and have been collecting wedding photographs of couples who married at this church, through the decades.
Jan Watt, Treasurer of the Friends Group said
'I have already received photographs of 38 different couples who married at All Saints church, ranging from 1937 to 1991 and am expecting more to arrive shortly. Not all brides got married in the traditional white dress. There is a photo of a typical 1940s style 'suit' and a hat worn on the 'tilt'. And a 1960s style suit & hat worn by one young bride'.'
These photographs will be displayed in decade order, around the church.
'We have two 'traditional' wedding dresses to display, both dresses have been worn by brides in this church, plus Basildon Heritage will be displaying photographs of 'Old Vange' as it was in bygone days. The church will be decorated with flowers & ribbons as it has been for many wedding ceremonies.'
The First recorded wedding ceremony took place in 1551 in All Saints Church and the last one was in 1991.

Last year, we welcomed over two million visitors to our churches. If each person donated just £2, this would enable us to keep our churches open, safe and watertight for you and future generations to enjoy.
