Python tackles Dragons and other ‘Medieval Misconceptions’

13 June 2011

This October, Terry Jones, the former Python and historian, will be presenting our Annual Lecture.

Python tackles Dragons and other ‘Medieval Misconceptions’

Was Medieval England full of knights on horseback rescuing fainting damsels in distress?  Were the Middle Ages mired in superstition and ignorance?

With his distinctive and original perspective on history, Terry Jones' lecture promises to open our eyes to the Middle Ages as we’ve never seen them before - a vibrant society teeming with individuality, intrigue and innovation.

Amongst the 340-plus historic churches in CCT’s care are some of the finest Medieval churches in England. Many contain wallpaintings that the Trust has conserved or uncovered, often featuring vivid characters and scenes of both beauty and terror. Terry’s lecture encompasses these worlds and more, sorting myth from reality.

Loyd Grossman, Chairman of CCT is eagerly anticipating the lecture: 'I am absolutely delighted that Terry Jones is giving CCT’s Annual Lecture ‘Medieval Misconceptions’ this year.  He is guaranteed to bring this often-misunderstood period to dramatic life and keep us entertained throughout.'

The event will be held at the Geological Society, Burlington Place, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BG on Thursday 6 October 2011 at 6.45pm (doors open 6.15pm).

Tickets are £20.00 (CCT Supporters, Directors Club, Patrons and SAVE members £15.00), and include a drinks reception after the lecture.

Last year, we welcomed over two million visitors to our churches. If each person donated just £2, this would enable us to keep our churches open, safe and watertight for you and future generations to enjoy.
