Help us with vital conservation specific work

Two people carrying out an archaeology survey at St Mary's, Wilton. By Neil RushtonVolunteering for the conservation team can be a rewarding and CV-enhancing experience.

For those looking to make their way into the heritage sector, we can provide opportunities to improve the practical aspect of working with historic buildings to complement degree or diploma training.

What can you do?

Roles can range from:

  • Carrying out assessment reports on the historical, archaeological and architectural significance of a church
  • On-site survey work
  • Conservation cleaning in churches - a vital process that requires a variety of skills and techniques transferrable to other heritage environments, for example the National Trust
  • Two young males intently listening at volunteer conferenceChurchyard recording (over a series of weekends)
  • One off events like Cathedral Camps

The conservation team can offer volunteering opportunities for weeks, months or years and can usually adapt to the time constraints and geographical needs of volunteers.

Volunteers come from all age groups and can be students looking to gain practical experience, heritage sector professionals looking to enhance their skills, and retired people looking to engage with their historic environment.
