The wallpaintings are so extensive and in need of much care that this project could be run every year - provided funding is available.

This years programme

So, what next?

Year on year, we try to raise money to carry on the conservation work. Once we have raised the funds, we would like to:

  • Part-fund a full academic monogroaph of the full works on the wallpaintings
  • Carry out a much more detailed study of the multi-layers of medieval wallpainting in the north aisle. In order to do this we need a specially mounted stereo-microscope
  • Carry out more conservation work to stabilise the 13th century ‘censing angels’ over the chancel arch

The cost of such specialist conservation is not small - approximately £30,000 would go a long way towards this work.

Donate by text

Last year, we welcomed over two million visitors to our churches. If each person donated just £2, this would enable us to keep our churches open, safe and watertight for you and future generations to enjoy.
