Our approach

Our simple and effective principles that have stood the test of time

Close up of a lock and handle on a wooden doorThe poet John Betjemen once wrote:

‘Without a church I think a place lacks its heart and identity’.

These simple words sum up what many love and value most about England’s historic churches.

Our estate is the largest collection of historic churches in the country. Their ongoing care is hugely important, and sometimes challenging, for the conservation team.

With proper care, the life of most kinds of historic buildings can be extended - this certainly applies to our estate.
